Let’s Chat - New York Fashion Week S/S 26
NYFW is here! We are currently part way through and I am loving so so so much of what I am seeing.
I have been blown away by one designer so NYFW review today is solely focusing on her. I have to talk about Monique Lhuillier’s collection. I have loved her pieces for years the elegance and beauty each look holds is nearly unbeatable. Once I saw a snippet of this collection I knew instantly I was going to fall even more in love. She describes her S/S 26 collection as ‘a celebration of radiant feminity… bursts into bloom exuberant colour and opulent joy’. How much more poetic can a fashion show be.
Each look stands beautyfily on its own but also works beautifully within the whole collection. I really enjoy how both silhouette and detail through texture has been explored. The fine beaded details to 3D flower creations balanced with a timeless silhouette shouting about the beauty of femininity.

A few stand out pieces from her collection above. This collection is really allowing me to see that I love a fashion show that is simply so elegant it is captivating. Don’t get me wrong when I was at university all my collections had dark meanings and focused on political and societal matters however since leaving education I am realising I love creating are with a twisted meaning but it doesn’t ALWAYS need to be this way. Sometimes celebrating the beauty and joy can be so powerful to. I think Monique Lhuillier has accomplished this to a tea. This is a collection that could be starred at all day and would still be an enjoyment.
Starting for the left, probably one of my favourite pieces, this embroidered dress holds so much detail not only from the embellishment but from silhouette and eat design like the waved bandeau neckline. This really helps to soften the edge with is so beautiful and so clever the dress looks like it has grown with the body and connects complex not just being but on and worn, this really is showing the high craftsmanship here, an area I really feel no designer gets true credit for. As a whole the collections colour palette is so sophisticated yet joyful but this looks balance of musk pink, plum and deep gold breathtaking I am so involve with this colourway, is stands out for itself and the shiny from the silk threads against the matte fabric really enhances the colour combination. In other words I would love this dress to admire in my own home.
Image 2 with a close up on this body con dress with crystal embrishment really captures me because of the neckline. This is the most crisp yet soft neckline. It is feminine and elegance and low on the b just but not so reveal it takes away from the effortless sophistication. the deep curve on this strapless dress is a trend I can really see taking off from this collection. I think it can be used in so many ways both for more casual outfits to a replication of this neckline for occasion dresses and even explored in wedding attire for next year. I really hope to see this neckline more. I really think the balance of this neckline with the muted sand colour of the dress works well, I think it carries on the theme of looking growing with the body rather than just a dress in a collection.
Now this next dress is Monique Lhuillier all over. This dress stands out a million miles as her, from the silhouette, large floral print and heavyweight sculpted fabric that holds the most beautiful skirt silhouette. This dress I think will go crazy for occasion dresses, I do expect to see this in weddings and for black tie events. the fabric manipulation twisting round the bodice to flow down one side of the skirt not only highlights the feminine figure more but allows your eyes to follow the dress from top to bottom really elongating the look and furthering the elegance appeal to this look. this is truly such a romantic look if I was going to a wedding next year or afternoon black tie party I would love to be seen in this, anyone wanting sunset photos this is your dress to be seen in!
Lastly the far right image with this simply soft look. This is a little different to the others with the floral print enlarged and colour way really tiring it to the other looks but itsnt it so effortless. It really shows a beautiful dress showing off felinity does need to have a low top, emphasis on the waist or bust, exaggerated hourglass shape. The silhouette can simply glide gently over the body with a soft round neck and crisp short sleeves that round off shoulders. I think to be able to encapsulate what all the other looks do but in a different format and still work together in a collection is magnificent is it has been achieved so well here and someone who may way sleeves on a dress whilst not losing out on Monique Lhuillier design style will just adore this look.

This white mini dress is exactly the type of dress that is going to go wild for soon to be brides at any event remotely related to their wedding, it is cute, pretty and has that beautiful 3D flower details that elevate the dress and after Madeline White Fedyk’s wedding and her standout Viktor and Rolph dress anything with 3D embellishment next year is going to be flying out of shops. Personally I would’ve liked a little embroidery on one side of the dress to really make this and out but that’s me being extra and getting into designing my own mini bridal party dress. The way the floral detail covers the straps I really like, I think it makes them more of a show piece and stops them being seeing as just to hold the dress inlace. This shape created from where the flowers have been placed on the dress frame the décolletage and face really well, bringing the eyes to the beauty of the person wearing the dress.
The middle blue dress is such a pretty colour and I really like how instead on an enlarged floral print the flowers are textured on the dress. I like how they are made from a sheer fabrics with layered petals to try the sheer effect with depth. Of course I can’t talk about this dress without mentioning the sequin fabric, normally my worst nightmare, a lot of times I think it looks cheep and a little tacky however here it looks classy and like it is meant to be. I really think she Monique Lhuillier has done justice here showing how high market sequinned fabric can be when used correctly - and with a prefect fit may I add. If I was going on lush holidays and walks at sunset along a beach i’d really want this o be the dress to get THAT picture in.
Finally the dress I first saw pictures of that really summed up the whole concept beautifully in a silhouette focused way. The petal like bodice is heaven. The way this dress has been structured to then have such a soft and floaty neckline is drop dead fab. this dress is soft and romantic whilst being made in a apple green colour to really push that emotions of joy out of this look. The slit perfectly balances the neckline soft cascade down the body and the fine button gold details top this look off.
So, if you couldn’t tell I am going to be absorbed into this collection for a while totally immersed in the felinity beauty and joy. I am really excited b y this collection and if I had places to go and a wallet to spend on luxury clothing my first stop for a jaw dropping dress would be this collection!
