Let’s Chat - August Vogue
It is mid July and that means a new issue of Vogue has arrived! This is always my favourite delivery and let me tell you when I opened it I was instantly in love with the cover - jaw dropped!
The use of bold blue and deep greens in the background contrasted by a neon green both for the title of Vogue and Doechii’s dress. The photos of Dloechii in this issue were amazing; they were almost 80’s colours but so fresh and new at the same time. I really loved here interview notes as well. Everything from the makeup, hair, photography and clothing stylist was so cohesive. what I couldn’t take my eyes off where Dloechii’s deep red ombre gloss lips - this was the cherry on top for me - I am OBSESSED with these, the makeup artist was Jamal Scott and I think they killed it, I want a tutorial on how to do these lips!
Vogue’s scene section was emphasising sport, game day and stripes. This concept is cool but some pages I loved and some not so much. I loved the layered of colours and simplistic pieces. The photos were organic and emotive which I enjoyed and liked the contrast of colour and black and white photos. I personally would’ve liked to see a few more textures or slightly challenging fabrics. I did really like page spread 38-39however page 34 focusing on acne studios topsy-turvy look felt off, for me the colours and layers were not there, being the first page as well I think make it even more disappointing because the photo next to this with peplum trousers from Alaia was fun and loved how the photo was from a movement and really expressed the fabric and hair movement cohesion.
Vogue’s lifestyle edit is something each month I love to look at, this Is always like a dreamland for me, an escape from the real world, not fashion related at all, but the peaceful gardens and poolside photos need a moment of appreciation.
Onto the Beauty edit now and what is the first page I see… LIPS, glossy red, plump lips. I am in love. I am all for lip balm, everyday twice a day, I cannot stand dry lips so this edit is right up my street, Don’t get me wrong though I am not a £45 balm girlie but this edit is tempting with Estee Lauders ‘melt on glosstick’ or Bisou Balm ‘sheer matte lipstick’ I need testers of these; I cannot stand sticking I love an almost moisturiser for the lip that will last. I do love a tinted lip balm especially for holidays, no makeup need just touching up the natural and looks incredible with a tan!
FASHION FEATURES TIME. The part I do really get most excited for, it is the main reason I have my collection of vogues. Va va Vogue. A lineup of sensual, lingerie inspired looks demand attention. and this photo is a massive hit. Everything from the mood, colours and each model’s whole attitude captured here is amazing. I am biased I love a linger photoshoot think they can represent so many different things and can be done in infinite ways with so many contrasts of pieces. Although these pieces are very neutral with only one leopard print and nude pink colour, the line detail, tip shapes and style pairings is really cool. Pairing this item with varying patterns and lace slingback really emphases a sexy, classy atmosphere. I do love an overload of jewellery in some shoots everywhere the pure minimalism of this is very appealing to be it is so pleasing to look at. This is a massive yes from me. I’d happily see this as a cover, photos like this I think do well.
The next page I NEED to talk about is Emporia Armani sharp tailoring. Normally tailoring edits can be so serious and structured, here there is movement, fun, the model is smiling. I believe this is a cool twist. The structured shoulders contrasted with the trousers lightweight moment is cool, this looks luxury, this is timeless; yes, yes YES.
I am going to move onto some pages I feel are less successful for me, purely personal taste but that’s what a magazine should give, different pages for different likes if I liked every single page for my taste there would be an issue. For me page 90 is way too basic and simple for me, I like the little snippet of vesicle print from the fallen coat on the model, but the overall effect is underwhelming. For connected the model stands there with a long sleeve, high neck black bodysuit and a Versace coat fall off her arms. I think even colouring in the print would’ve complexly changed my opinion here or having something more going on here, but I do love the model’s facial simplicity it feels real.
The page next is a complexly different story full of a bright orange background. I am obsessed with this. named ‘A clash act’. I loved the models pose, makeup hair, accessories - everything here tinted pink lips work great with the bright background and more muted toned jewellery and eye makeup. Now the top is my only little niggle. I love the colour and shape; I think the texture is just not for me it reminds me of a baby chick. don’t hate me but it is all I think of when I see that top.
The bold Colours are continued to A McQueen purple gown on an orange background. I do not normally like this plum purple but in this everything is incredible. The lightweight fabric all layered up in this cape dress is gorgeous and I cannot get enough. This page is divine, so dramatic yet elegant. Every time I look, I see a new detail or drop from the dress, I don’t need any more this page is a top for me.
The around the block feature in this month’s vogue is beautiful. It encompasses tailored garments and a hit of sportswear on the street. Max Ortega is the stylist here and let me tell you I am transported into the streets of America here by Barbra Probst’s photos. Every page is cohesive yet showing something different. Of course, the Miu Miu red tailored female’s blazer and skirt set is my favourite page. The model has a dog! That is all that needs to be said to win me over. On a more serious note, the colours from the baby pink cored lead and mustard yellow bag work so well with the model’s outfit and background setting. The silhouette is so flattering, and gold floral earrings add that touch of delicate elegance I love to see.
The final edit I am going to chat about today is Sarah Burtons debut for Givenchy. The neon green is successful on this collection. Not a colour I warm to easily or I am naturally drawn to in my own design work but with the exaggerated silhouettes and the fun, feminine styles here I think it works well, I could look at this collection all day! I think this is a great start of for her work here and really impressed me. I think she achieved her aims of focusing on what women want to feel in clothes and make it feel like a luxury dream, items of clothes they will treasure and pass down.
There it is, Let’s chat - August Vogue. I hope you enjoyed! don’t Forget to check out my Instagram, I’ll keep you updated on the next new post over there and will be sharing my own ways I style with a touch of beauty and wellness and of course feature of my gorgeous dog!
